After my day at Torrey Pines Natural Reserve I drive to see my new friends Micheline and David for dinner in Carlsbad at Paon Restaurant on 2975 Roosevelt Ave. We meet for drinks at the bar and then a table is waiting for us. I have the Braised beef short ribs with wild mushroom ragout, spinach and Yukon Gold potato. It’s a perfect combination and the beef melts in my mouth, delicious. Great food, conversation and company who could ask for more?
I stay with them for a few days in the small town of Valley Center, home of John Wayne, Fred Astaire and Mae West, to name a few. Micheline and I take a self guided wine tasting tour in Temecula Valley to the Leonness Cellars, Danza Del Sol Winery and Cougar Vineyards. I’ve only been to a few wine tastings, but never in such a beautiful setting as Temecula Valley. The valley is 60 miles north of San Diego, full of rolling hills, beautiful landscapes, and vineyards. Perfect climate for growing grapes and making wines.
I don’t want to over stay my welcome so I bid ado to my gracious hosts and continue up the Pacific coast highway through Oceanside, then jump on the 5 to my next destination, LA. Many of my relatives live in California including my two sisters. I stay with Cousin David and his family for a few days in Woodland Hills and visit my sister Anne and her husband Bill for the afternoon.
Anne and Bill live in Echo Park/Silver Lake District. She is the bull dog/advocate for her neighborhood. Apparently LA loves to demolish old homes along with displacing its poor residents to build luxury homes for the wealthy. Los Angeles’s motto should be: Out with the Old and in with the New. It sickens me. I have no use for LA, I only come to visit those I love.
The next day my cousin Dave takes me for a drive up the coast to Malibu and we visit a beach called Leo Carrillo. We walk down to the beach and walk through a cool natural rock cave to another small beach. I love the rock formations and the ocean. I could enjoy the view all day, heaven.
