A mini road trip to Brookings Oregon: 6 Month Solo Road Trip

Brookings Oregon: I’ve been traveling on the road for the past 2 months going from one place to another and now I have a place to enjoy for a month, but I’m restless. The idea of relaxing for a month sounds enjoyable to be unplugged away from the world aah…A week yes but a whole month? Hmmm…

I book a private guest suite on Airbnb in Brookings Oregon. I choose Brookings because it’s the first coastal town on the southern Oregon coast. It feels as though I’m back tracking however, since I drove route 199 and 101 to get to Jacksonville. The home is a dark brown California ranch probably built-in the late 1960’s.  As I get out of my car I can hear the waves crash over the rocks.

I knock on the door. A tall woman about 50 with sandy blond hair in a pony tail greets me with a smile. After introductions, she shows me my room. The floor plan is interesting. A glass roof atrium separates the main house from the suite. A large glass patio slider is the entrance to the room. I take off my shoes before entering since the carpet is off white. The furnishings are simple consisting of a a cafe table with two chairs, a dark brown leather chair, a corner gas fireplace with a flat screen tv and a queen size brass bed. The off white tiled bathroom has a large shower with glass door and a sauna. I’m looking forward to relaxing in the sauna.

Flatbread Salad

Chocolate Martini

We talk for a bit. I ask where a good place to have a drink and comfort food. She tells me about a sports bar right down the street called the Superfly Martini Bar and Grill.  I thank her as I get my suitcase out of the car. My stomach is starting to grumble so I freshen up and look up the restaurant on Yelp for directions. I order a chocolate martini and a flatbread salad . I know it doesn’t sound appetizing together, but there is a nip in the air and I want a drink which warms me up. I also want something fairly healthy to eat hence the salad. Okay it’s essentially ordering a fast food hamburger, fries and a diet soda, but healthier. There’s not too much on the menu to my liking since I’m not a fan of seafood, so a flatbread salad is safe. Have I convinced you?

Breakfast overlooking the rocky coast of Brookings Oregon

After dinner, I drive back to the property and catch the last bit of the sun set as it dips behind the ocean’s horizon, peace. The next day I wake up refreshed. Cindy the owner, texts me letting me know breakfast is ready on their deck. I get dressed and walk over. Wow, what a wonderful way to start the day having breakfast on the veranda overlooking the ocean. A fresh fruit bowl of banana, strawberry and blueberries, a hot scone and tea await me. Aah. The sun is still low in the sky at 6:30 in the morning but what a nice way to start the day. I sit for a while admiring the view. I thank her for a wonderful stay and feel as though I should tip her for breakfast. I’m packed and we hug as I say goodbye. What a great start to a mini road trip.
