Day 24: Sunrise Beach Villas, Paradise Island: 6 Month Solo Road Trip

Day 24:

After the 7 day tall ship cruise on the Liberty Clipper I am looking forward to just relaxing on the beautiful Cabbage Beach, Paradise Island at the Sunrise Beach Villas. I say my goodbyes to my new friends and take a taxi back to the hotel. Before my sailing adventure I stayed here for one night. I love the villa style of this boutique hotel. I’m not a fan of high-rise hotels especially on the beach. They ruin the beach casting their shadows on the sand. I’m here for the sun, the water, the beach and peace and quiet.

I know what you are thinking this woman is on a 6 month vacation she doesn’t have to worry about anything. You are right about some of it, but driving takes a lot out of you. One is constantly scanning the road, having to pay attention to everything. Going from hotel to the next never actually having time to relax is tiring. I’ve only been on the road for 3 weeks and I have a little over 5 months to go. It’s my alone time to just chill on the beach that I crave. Aah.

This time the wind has died down and it’s warmer than it was a week ago.  I have the same room which is fine. The noise from the construction crew jack hammering subsides (refurbishing a villa across the courtyard). It’s overcast so I walk to the shops and get a few postcards, shot glasses and playing cards. I ask the cashier where’s a place to eat overlooking the water. She tells me about the Green Parrot Bar & Grill. After a few failed attempts I finally find it. It’s where the locals and boaters hang out which is fine with me. It overlooks the marina and is close to the bridge. I have hamburger sliders and strawberry daiquiris (see my review on TripAdvisor above). Decent food, decent price, nice views, but scary bathrooms. Word of caution; bring your hand sanitizer with you.

When I get back to the villas the hotel books my horseback riding adventure at Happy Trails Stables. Riding on the beach in paradise is a must for me. Life is Good.

Day 25:

My last full day in the Bahamas. It’s a beautiful day and I chill at the beach away from the crowds. My idea of a tropical beach is seclusion. I love to hear only the sounds of seagulls and the waves lapping the shore. I walk about 200 yards to the right and find myself a spot. Heaven. Close to noon I’m feeling hungry so I leave a my beach towel (don’t want to lose my perfect spot) and head to Viola’s Bar & Grill at the Sunrise Beach Villa for lunch. I have a BLT and two strawberry daiquiris, my favorite summertime drink.-yum. After lunch I head back to the beach and enjoy.

At dusk I walk on the beach to Atlantis. I’m told that after 5:30 they don’t have guards at the entrances. Apparently the word on the streets is that Atlantis is having financial troubles, so now they are charging $75 for non guests to walk the grounds during the day. I walk to the beach entrance and enter, following the path. I pass large pools with various sharks and signs saying caution do not climb on the rocks. Apparently people must have and fallen into the shark pool. I shiver thinking about it. I follow a path which leads to stairs, I go down and continue following the dimly lighted walk way. I come to an underwater tube and watch the various aquatic sea life swim above me. Now that’s cool. I watch for a bit then head back up. The grounds are huge, there are only a few people milling about. I look up at the towers and only a handful of rooms are lit. Hmm.

Day 26:

I wake up early and have my Nature’s Harvest Super Food Shake. I brought 10 bags with me on my 6 month solo journey. Normally I have it for breakfast so I’m sure to get all my nutrients. I am surprise to learn that the island grows a lot more than pineapples, Bahamas food guide. They are known for their vegetables and conch.

Sign at Happy Trails Stable-too funny

I’m packed and decide to take one last  walk along the beach. At 10:15 am I check out of the hotel and the taxi from the Happy Trails Stables is waiting for me to take me for a beach ride. Most of the trail ride is through neighborhoods but we are the only ones on the beach. We ride on the beach and into the calm clear water. What a great way to end the trip.

I love the signs at Happy Trails Stables.
